Since the founding of the institute of Data Science and Engineering (DaSE) on September 26,2013,2023 marks the 10th anniversary of DaSE. In 2016, DaSE began enrolling undergraduate students in the major of Data Science and Engineering, and theinstilute was nalurally upgraded to the Schoal of Data Science and Engineering (referredto as the Data School). Now, DaSE has grown from a small, new institute into acomprehensive school with outstanding achievements in teaching, research, and public service.

Data is a projection of the real world in cyerspace, containing rich information and patterns. Data is a kind ofnew factor of production. lt serves as an important role in the constuction of the Digital China. lt is the new Power for digital transformation and the digital economy. Manyemerging applications have arisen and wil continue to arise fromdala. Behind these applicalions, we need new methods, technologies, and theories, aswell as new talents.

The Data School aims to study the scientific and engineering problems in data, and in the process, cultivate "hardcore" tech talents who understand the value of data, are familiar with data thinking, and have data engineering practice capabilities. The school adheres to the development concepts of "application-driven innovation" and "openness enables innovation': with the original aspiration of"conducing real research and usefulresearch", we start from practical problems and social pain points, use innovative ideasand open source technalogies to solve prablems, and strive to produce originaresearch results that empower industries through close links and integration withenterorses and industries.

The school's faculty includes 3 national leading talents, 3 outstanding academic leaders in Shanghai, 12 outstanding young talents at provincial and ministerial levels, and 9professors wth long-term industrial engineering research experience.The school enrolls undergraduate students in the major of"Data Science and Big DataTechnalogy', doctoral and academic master's students in the majr of"Data Scienceand Engineering", doctoral and master's sludents ma jpring in "Big Data Technclogy andEngineering' in Electronic Information, offers public computer courses across the university, and serves hundreds of thousands of students nationwide through the'Shui-Shan Online" platform. The talent culivation outcomes have won national secondprize and Shanghai first prize for teaching achievements.The school currently has 5 provincial and ministerial research and talent cultivationbases including the Shanghai Big Data Management System Engineering Research Center, the Ministry of Education Blockchain Data Management Engineering Research Center, the Ministry ofEducation Intelligent Education Information TechnalogyInnovation Talent Introduction Base (111 Talent Intoduction Basel, the National Digital Literacy and Skills Training Base, and the Ministry ofEducation Vrtual Teaching and Research Office for Data Science and Big Data Technolagy Majors, as well as 9university-enterprise loint laboratories, Research teams have won i national secondprize for scientific and technological progress, and 5 first prizes in scientific research atprovncial, ministerial and nafonal academic association levels.
